Illustration Friday~Camouflage

This week's challenge for Illustration Friday is "Camouflage".  I decided to enter my Forest Fairy since she is dressed in nature's finest camouflage.  Sorry it's an old ilustration from the files but I couldn't resist!

My Birthday

I really had to think twice about this entry.....ok.....so.....I had a BIG Birthday!  A month ago I was worried about the whole idea of "aging".  It really bothered me that I was turning 60!  Yeah...60!  I was even getting teary when talking about it with my friend, Ang.  She mentioned the number...."60"!  All I could say is...."I'm Fucked!" (I'm not always puritanical and sweet)....and the tears came.... Sometimes I live in fear of not being able to take care of myself.  I don't want to become dependent upon anyone.  I want to continue to do the things I love and to be a joy to the ones I love!  The last ten years have gone by so quickly!  So many changes...so many wonderful and so many scarey things!  A person could get really worried about the future instead of living the present!  I am lucky to have a wonderful family and friends! 

This month Ang's mother, Faye moved here from Michigan.  She is a friend as well as an inspiration because she is always willing to take on a challenge!  For my birthday Faye baked me a birthday cake and she and Ang decorated it!  Is it great or what?!!!! LOL!  How can you help but LOVE your 60th Birthday!!!  Memorable????  But of course!

Illustration Friday ~ Rejection

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "Reject".  This illustration is from my book, We Can Get Along.  The book deals with ways for children to make healthy choices.  The roots of "rejection" of our ideas or of ourselves, comes in early childhood.  Fortunately we can learn to deal with rejection.  Today most schools have great programs about Bullying and how to deal with it so that there is a sense of belonging for all students.  Free Spirit Publishing offers many good books that offer ways to deal with Bullying.  It is important that we teach our children the difference between leadership and bullying.  It is increasingly critical that we provide our children tools to learn how to take responsiblility for themselves and for their actions.  They also need to be given an example of how to react calmly, confidently and effectively.  Remember the old, " think before you speak or act and treat others the way you want to be treated"?

Happy Birthday Ben and Baby Alexander!!!

                                

He's here!!!  I am a grandmother once again!!!  Alexander arrived safe and sound on Ben's Birthday!  Happy Birthday Ben! (and Happy Father's Day!).  Talk about the ultimate gift!!!  From all accounts Sibylle is doing well.  I can't wait to see them!!!  What a wonderful day.  What a wonderful feeling this is!!! 

PFATT~A June Halloween Party

   PFATT is having a Halloween in JUNE Party!  I am offering my new Halloween Fairies as tags.  I speak for all the artists and hope you will visit to win one of the door prizes offered.  I know...I don't want to think about the end of summer just as summer has arrived but who can resist the idea of grinning jack-o-lanterns and black cats?

   Wow the time is whisking by!!!  I spent the last few weekends enjoying my family.  It is always nice to have everyone home and to enjoy each other's company.  I feel like summer has finally arrived.  My brother called me last night to remind me that, I "only have less than a week before I turn old".  I am having a milestone birthday this year....I am turning 60.  I admit I was upset about it for most of the year until I figured out how to turn it around.  It came to me this week...at Stitch and Bitch.  My friend Maureen gave two of us a cards and made cupcakes to celebrate our birthdays.  I started thinking about my 16th birthday and I started humming the song, "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen"...so...I have decided to think of this birthday as, "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixty"!  So there it is!  I'm not getting older!  I'm getting better!.

   

Blogging Through Life!

                            

I have been caught up in tail end of a whirlwind!  I should be touching down soon!  I keep thinking,  "I have to blog about this"...and then THAT happens!  It's all good news...just been hectic!  The kids are here from Arkansas right now and of course that means lots of hugs from my daughter....smiles and kisses from the grandkids....a new publication in the works by my son-in-law and time to see my daughter and son together!  My grandson is morphing from his baby, toddler look into a little boy!  He is leaning out and upward!  And.....my baby grandaughter is nearly walking.  She has a little smile plastered on her face all the time!  It is wonderful to watch the whole process from a Grandmother's perspective....so much different that parenting....but knowing now how fast time flies, there is a longing to grab them all up and squeeze them every minute I have.  My dear friend, Maureen has just become a Grandmother for the first time and last week we went to spend and afternoon with her daughter and new grandson, Nolan.  Again, I feel priviledged to see the passage of time all in one room.  It is hard to beleve I was in one whirlwind and now I am in another!  I don't know how else to say it....life just happens that fast!
