Fairies Within

 
 

I'm back in the saddle again!  Working on a series of paintings~collage~fun.  I love writing on my work and this piece has layers and layers of writing.  My work has been very impacted by cave art, petroglyphs and graffiti.  I try to make that mixture of past and present come alive. This piece definately has the rock wall feeling.  It is a tactile piece and is also interactive with a working counter that I found at a great place in Milwaukee called the American Science and Surplus that sells everthing wierd under the sun.   

This was a fun piece for me to create.  I go deep within when I am creating.  I am the kind of person that has fun when I work.  I've used everything from a blow torch to a hammer to bring this piece to life.  Three of the sides have things carved into them.  I could never deface property!...always loved reading the bathroom walls...but I never wrote on them.  LOL!  You would never know it from my art.   

 

Now...you may ask why the title of this post is "Fairies Within"....If you look for it you will find a fairy hidden in the piece....Just for fun.  My plan is to complete three pieces before I put them up for sale.  Are you having a good weekend?

    Who doesn't identify with this week's topic for Illustration Friday? It seems I have been tipping over my diet coke a lot lately...how CLUMSY is that?!  You can't waste a good coke so a full can was photographed on it's side. The spill was an added with photoshop tools.  After all...Coke is..."the nectar of the gods". I'm more alert and focused thanks to Coke.  Do you drink coffee, coke or an energy drink while you work???

Let It Snow...

 
   The holidays descended upon us....I was never ready for them this year!  They were over just as quickly as they came.  It was like breathing in and then breathing out again.  Holiday crafts were made, and  time was spent with the grandchildren. Little kids left footprints in the snow (tracking bunny wabbits).Which were quickly covered by several new storms.  I always miss those little fingers and toes!  LOL! 

  December and January have been busy months at work.  People are experiencing a lot of pain.  But on a higher note, people are expressing a lot of hope for 2010!!!  I see a lot of positive thinking and good energy coming from everyone for the NEW year.  Everyone wants to do what it takes to turn things around!  That kind of energy can not be mimimized. I believe this is going to be a very good year for everyone!  The ground is very fertile for creativity to step up!  (That's a nice way of saying that crap makes great fertilizer... and ...EVERYONE...PLANT SEEDS !)  Smile at someone.  Thank a neighbor.  Open a door for the person behind you.  Give a fellow driver a break!  Help someone in the parking lot.  Get back to being polite and kind.  Give someone a start to a new day. Anthing you do, can be the beginning of a better day for someone else.  If it is better for someone else it is going to become better for you.  Every day I hear about the little things that have made the difference to people.  You may contribute the last inches that it takes to some one to reach a goal. So let it snow...let the new make us look forward to a better day NOW!  Gus and Rosie agree with me! 

 

 

 

A Place to Bark

   I hope you will try to give a little bit to Bernie and her shelter, "A Place to Bark".  If you followed her work  day you would be amazed at what she has accomplished by putting one foot in front of the other over and over again.  Her love for animals is a wonderful thing to witness.

   Many thanks to Loretta Benedetto Marvel over at pomegranatesandpaper for passing on the Honest Scrap Award to my blog!  I am thrilled that she would think of me since I think her blog is "THE BEST"!  Loretta is the kind of blogger I can only aspire to be!  So thanks Loretta, this means a lot coming from you. 

The rules are to write 10 random facts about me followed by nominations of 7 bloggers that I hold dear.  So here goes:

1.  I am a magazine whore!  I can't read them enough.  I most enjoy CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS, WHERE WOMEN CREATE, and every one of the Somerset magazines.  I so miss Mary Englebrights Home Companion.

2.  I have had lots of incarnations in this life from mother to artist and illustrator to author to clinical therapist and art therapist, to lecturer.

3.  I NEVER thought I could speak in front of a group!!!  But now, I love it!

4.  I love to sew, knit, draw, cut and paste!

5.  Each of my children have married wonderful people and I feel like I have lots of love from them all.

6.  I was once a lifeguard for four years and even saved a few lives.  Every once and awhile I wonder about them, how they are and I hope their lives are happy.

7.  I feel like I have to work too much and wish I could spend more time with my family.

8.  I have a zillion old full sketchbooks.

9.  I LOVE things that sparkle.  I have a bad case of ADD.

10.  I am a nite owl.

Countdown to Christmas

Christmas Countdown & MySpace Layouts

So here it is December already!  Did we have a summer?  Were the kids really gone so long?  What happened to the leaves outside my window?  No more open windows...no more picnics on the patio. 

MAJOR SHIFT HAAAPPPEEENNNNNNIINNNNNGGGGG!...........................

Make the Christmas list, go shopping, check christmas list, match it to presents bought.  Go back and look for the forgotten items.   Wrap presents and place where the dogs don't rip them open.  Write cards.  Put up lights.  Decorate House.  Bake cookies.  (Don't forget to go to work.)  Get some sleep.  Enjoy!  Wheew!

Kids...and Welcome to the World Roman!

  We have a new baby in the family.  Congratulations Trent and Sarah....and congratulations to my brother as well upon the birth of his second grandchild!  Time has been moving by so quickly lately.  I haven't been very good about blogging these past months and I am determined to change that.  I have met so many wonderful people through blogging.  It seems that there really is a wonderful world out here and I love it!  The new baby's name is Roman.  Welcome to the world little guy!  I am happy that in spite of what the headlines say, I really do believe it is a better world for children today than it was when I first began to read the newspaper.  I am sharing a video by Kristin Andreassen that Jennifer Williams had posted on her blog, Blueskysunburn Creations.   I had to pass it on at this time because, when a child is born we need to celebrate all children.  What a wonderful song and what a wonderful message!
